DMXS Radio : How to Listen on a MAC

How to Listen on a MAC

"We thank you for visiting DMXSRadio.com. You can find the LiveStream through the "Listen Live" navigation bar (on the left) and in the Header image or by going to Listen Live. All of our shows are archived for listening or Podcast 24/7. If you have any questions, concerns, or reccomendations, please email me. If you are having any problems listening, email us at brian@dmxsradio.com."Brian Johnson, DMXS Web Idiot.

Our archives and live shows are broadcast in Windows Media Format. Since Macintosh does not include a Windows Media Player in their computers, you will need to download a free Windows Media Player from Microsoft (Click Here for OSX).

Macintosh users often experience problems once they have installed Windows Media Player. You may need to make some adjustments on how you connect to audio links through your WMP, depending on your Mac Operating System.

One way to circumvent problems is to take the URL of the audio link and paste it directly into the Windows Media Player (See #4 below). If you want to listen to our live audio stream, you can also try downloading the file which may then force the player to receive the stream, http://www.dmxsradio.com/DMXS_LiveStream.asx

Difficulties in listening from Macs are common. In an ongoing effort to make our stream and archives available to more of our listeners, please feel free to research the issue and let us know anything that might help with accessibility at this Mac/Windows Media Discussion Group

You can email brian@dmxsradio.com with your problem.
To help us in assisting you, please answer the following questions in your email.
1. What operating system are you using?
2. What type of computer?
3. What is the exact error that happens when you try to listen?
Have you upgraded your Windows Media Player?

I don't use Windows, I'm on a Mac. Can I get your broadcast via the internet?
Absolutely! With Windows Media® Components for QuickTime, by Flip4Mac™, you can play Windows Media files (.wma and .wmv) directly in QuickTime Player by clicking on file/open url and typing in http://www.dmxsradio.com/DMXS_LiveStream.asx" Note: When connecting to Windows Media streaming servers, the Flip4Mac may try to download the requested media instead of streaming it. This can cause the stream to stutter or loop back after a few minutes of play. To correct this:

1. Open the System Preferences utility
2. Click Flip4Mac WMV to open the Flip4Mac preferences pane
3. Open the Movie tab
4. Select "Create streaming movies"
5. Close System Preferences and restart any open browsers

The next time you access a WMA or WMV stream, the plugin will display the streaming progress bar instead of the download bar, and the stream should play correctly.
Or you can download a Mac version of Windows Media Player. To do this, just click here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/default.aspx and follow the instructions for a free download.

If you are running OS8.6 through OS9, Click Here to read the Trouble-shooting notes for Windows Media Player.

If you are running OSX, Click Here to read the Trouble-shooting notes for Windows Media Player.

Selected Trouble-shooting Notes

1. If you are using Internet Explorer 4.01 or 4.5, you may experience problems opening links to some files. To fix this, upgrade your browser to Internet Explorer 5 or download the link to your computer, and then open it with the Player.

2.If you install Internet Explorer 5 after you have installed the Player, you should run Windows Media Player Setup again. This will add the Windows Media plug-in to the browser so you can play Windows Media-based content that is embedded in Web pages.

3. You may experience problems opening links to content that uses the Microsoft Media Server (MMS) protocol. To play content that uses the MMS protocol, start the Player, and on the File menu, click Open URL, and then type the URL.

4. Issue acquiring licensed Windows Media files using Internet Explorer 4.5 . If you are using Internet Explorer 4.5, you may not be able to acquire licensed Windows Media files. To fix this, upgrade to Internet Explorer 5 or later.

OSX

1. Windows Media Player installation difficulties - Some users reported problems completing the installation on Mac OS X. The most recent installer corrects these issues. To use the new installer, download the latest player.

2. You may experience problems opening links to content that uses the Microsoft Media Server (MMS) protocol. To play content that uses the MMS protocol, start the Player, and on the File menu, click Open URL, and then type the URL.

3. When using a Web browser to open links to content, the Classic version of Windows Media Player (Windows Media Player 7.01 for Mac or earlier) may launch. To fix the problem, do one or more of the following:
1. If you have Mac OS 9.1 or earlier installed in your Classic environment, install Mac OS 9.2 or later in your Classic environment.
2. Delete all Classic versions of Windows Media Player from all Classic environments on your computer.
